April 14th Proclamations

At the Monday night Valley City Council meeting, Councilman James McDowell,  Mayor Pro Tempore, presented and read three Proclamations.

The week of April 27th - May 3rd was proclaimed to be "Hike/Bike/Run Week". This will be the 32nd Annual Hike/Bike/Run and will be held Saturday, May 3rd. This is the most important fund raising event for Valley Haven School, which provides a valuable service to our area individual with handicapped conditions. The proclamation calls upon the citizens of Valley to join with the thousands of other individuals in generously helping to provide the funds for support of Valley Haven School.

The week of April 13th through April 19th was proclaimed to be National Telecommunicator's Week. Emergencies can occur at any time that require police or emergency medical services and when these emergencies occur, the prompt response of police officers and paramedics is critical. The safety of our police officers is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who telephone the Valley Police Department Communications Center. These Public Safety Dispatchers are the single vital link for our police officers by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them information, and insuring their safety. Public Safety Dispatchers of the Valley PD have contributed substantially to the apprehension of criminals and the treatment of patients and exhibit compassion, understanding, and professionalism during the performance of their job in the past year. This proclamation honors these Communication Officers whose diligence and professionalism keep our City and citizens safe.

The month of April was proclaimed to be Child Abuse Prevention Month in the City of Valley.  Physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of children in our community remains a serious problem. In the last year, ninety new cases of child abuse were investigated within Chambers County; the Department of Human Resources in conjunction with the Tri-County Children's Advocacy Center and local law enforcement officials jointly reviewed 217 cases of child sexual and physical abuse within the county in the last year. The public needs to be aware of the serious nature and prevalence of Child Abuse in order to help prevent abuse and to report its occurrences. April has been designated in communities throughout the nation as Child Abuse Prevention Month and we encourage our citizens to help protect our children from abuse.
