Annual Events
There's a lot that goes on throughout the year in this small town, nestled on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Fishing shows, car shows, art shows, craft shows, and more are held at the Community Center, on the Rails-to-Trails, and other places around the City. Halloween's Trick-Or-Treat on the Trail is now The City of Valley's Trick or Trick Festival at Rams Stadium and in 2006, its first year there, drew over 3,000 people! Its becoming one of the City's biggest events of the year. Children come from Valley ,as well as the surrounding area, to get their share of the Halloween goodies given out by churches, businesses, and clubs set up Rams Stadium and to try to win first prize in the Costume Contest, which each year has more Harry Potters, fairies, witches, vampires, super-heroes, and many more types of contestants. There's also the Relay-For-Life, HealthFair, Hike-Bike-Run, and numerous other events held on a yearly basis.
The Day on the River event is held at the Old Shawmut Airport located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. This event features live music from the area's talented musicians, booths with mouth-watering bar-b-que, hot dogs, hamburgers, and more local delicacies; rides for the kids; and a variety of other entertainment that changes each year.
The Christmas season in Valley is special; it's a magical time of year for children and a nostalgic time for adults as some of the traditions still being carried on have existed for over 50 years. There's the Nativity Scene in the meadow, the Madonna light-sculpture, and the Christmas Merry-Go-Round that has given over 1,000,000 rides to children and adults, too. In 2008, a new tradition was started with the first "A Cotton Mill Christmas" production. This is a play that is based on stories from our citizens about these Christmas traditions. "A Cotton Mill Christmas" is written, directed, produced, and performed by residents of Valley and the surrounding area. The 2009 production is "A Cotton Mill Christmas - Stories from the Attic."
For a small-town, there seems to always be something happening. We'd love to have you stop by and join in the festivities.
