We said it was going to be H-U-G-E! And, it was! With a crowd estimated at around 7,500, the City of Valley's First Annual Day on the River was by any definition a roaring success.
The Florida Bar-B-Que Association's Bar-B-Que Cook-off with 26 "Bar-B-Que Experts" from across the Southeast pitted their BBQ against the "Best in the South". The Swamp Boys team was 1st Grand Champion and the Hoochie Que Bar-B-Que Team was runner-up. The aroma of freshly cooked Bar-B-Que filled the air and caused many mouths to water as they roamed across the historic Old Shawmut Airport covered with 190 art & crafts booths, food booths games & contests, rides, displays, music, and one of the largest fireworks displays in Valley's history that ended a wonderful Day on the River event.
The City would like to thank all the many sponsors who helped to make Valley's first Day on the River Festival such a success. Special thanks to KIA and J. Smith Lanier & Co. for sponsoring George Molton, one of country music's new rising stars, who put on a great show before and after the fireworks display.
