The 2007 State Masters Games started Tuesday at the Valley Community Center with the opening ceremonies and the lighting of the Masters Games Torch by Roger McDonald. More than 700 participants 55 and older from all over the State of Alabama are expected to compete in the 3 day event, which will include horseshoes, softball throw, shuffleboard, dominoes, rook, swimming, and more.
The State Masters Games Awards Banquet, a dinner and dance event, was held at 6:30PM EST on Wednesday at the Valley Community Center. Entertainment was provided by The Shotyme Band from Columbus, Georgia. The City of Valley's own Joyce Reese sat in with the band and performed a stirring rendition of the classic country song "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man". The following awards were presented during the banquet:
