Valley Receives ACE Sign

Monday night, May 14, 2007, at the City Council meeting, Mary Shell, representing the Alabama Communities of Excellence (ACE) program, presented Valley Mayor Arnold Leak with the City's ACE sign. This sign signifies that the City of Valley, Alabama has been designated an Alabama Community of Excellence.

The ACE program bean in 2003 and Valley was one of 8 communities in the state selected to participate in the new pilot program. In order to receive an ACE designation, a community must complete a 3 phase program: Phase I (Assessment); Phase II (Leadership, Development and Strategic Planning); and Phase III (Implementation). Valley completed the program in 2006 and was designated an Alabama Community of Excellence.

Every 3 years, an ACE awardee must be recertified. This recertification process is based on the community's progress in implementing its plans and the progress the community has made toward approaching ACE community standards.

Valley City Administrator Tim Bryan said that the sign will be duplicated and then a sign will be placed at all points of entry into the City. Presently, the ACE sign is on display in the lobby of the Valley City Hall Complex.

The Alabama Communities of Excellence Website has more information on the ACE program.
