Black History 2008 Proclamation

Black History Month, a nationally proclaimed period of our nation's history, is respected and celebrated by the City of Valley each year. This celebration affords the City an opportunity to pay special tribute to African-American citizens who have contributed to the progress of our community.

This year the City of Valley will pay special recognition to thirteen surviving teachers who taught in the Rehobeth High and River View Jr. High Schools prior to 1970. These teachers played significant roles in developing character and molding and shaping the minds of youths, and today, continue to serve in various aspects of community activities.

At the February 18th City Council Meeting, the City of Valley will pay special tribute to these former teachers as our 2008 Black History Honorees. Mayor Arnold Leak encourages family, friends, and former students to join us in honoring these dedicated educators.
