Fourth of July - 2007

The 2007 4th of July celebration began at 11:30 AM at the Community Center. Over 700 people were on hand for the morning and afternoon events that included Rook and Domino tournaments, 'The Best Dressed Tomato Basket Contest, the "Biggest 'Mater Contest, Bingo, Dunkin Booth, Home Interior booth and a free swim in the Aquatic Center's Indoor Pool.

Shelia Still, Valley Parks and Recreation Events Coordinator, said ..'400 people played bingo and over 700 tomato sandwhiches were prepared  and nothing was left but crumbs!"  In addition, 200 gifts and prizes were given away to the winners of the various tournaments and contests that occured from 11:30AM - 4 PM.

At  6PM, the action shifted to the Sportsplex where a Horseshoe Tournament was held; rides for the kids were set up - Giant Maze, Water Slide and Train; various concessions were available and 'Glow Necklaces' could be bought.

The entertainment also started at 6PM with bands 'Big Injun' and 'Fifth Element' playing for a crowd estimated at well over 1700, with people from as far away as Atlanta on hand to hear these bands perform.

Even though, due to the state-wide drought conditions, the fireworks display was canceled, a laser show was presented that brought many oohs and aahs from the crowd.

Many thanks to all those who helped to make this event a great success and to those who came out to celebrate America's birthday with us!
