Valley Art Council Quilt Show 2006

The Quilt Show, held Sat-Sun October 28-29 at the Valley Community Center, sponsored by the Valley Art Council was a great success. Close to 200 people attended the 2 day exposition of quilts and over 100 quilts were exhibited! The Lanier Nursing Home Volunteers, Hospice, and over 30 individuals displayed quilts they had made, were family heirlooms, or were from their collection of quilts. There are a myriad of quilting patterns used to create these colorful coverlets and many of these patterns were on display such as 'cathedral', 'yoyo', 'eishenhower', 'crazy', and many more. According to Webster, quilting is 'to stitch or sew in layers with padding in between'. This may sound like a simple thing to do, but some of these quilts are quite intricate in their design and take as long as a year to complete. In addition to the wide assortment of quilts on display, the Lanier Nursing Home Volunteers demonstrated the art of quilting by working on a quilt during the 2 day show. If you missed the 1st Annual Valley Art Council Quilt Show, do yourself a favor and don't miss the next one!
