Dear Friends, Neighbors and Interested Parties,
The City of Valley,
working through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and MACTEC design
consultants will be conducting a design charrette to develop a plan for the
Langdale and Riverdale mills. If the word “charrette” is new to you, it is
simply an intense process of design activity . In urban planning, the charrette has become a technique for consulting
with all “stakeholders”. Such charrettes typically involve intense and
possibly multi-day meetings, involving municipal officials, developers,
and residents. A successful charrette promotes joint ownership of solutions.
Residents who participate get early input into the planning process1.
With so many changes coming to the Valley area, this
represents a wonderful opportunity to help the City of Valley develop plans relating to the Langdale
and Riverdale mill properties. We are exploring a “twin mill” concept in which
both mills relate to each other because of their proximity to the Chattahoochee River.
Work during this charrette will concentrate on the Riverdale Mill within
the Twin Mill concept. Even if you don’t plan to actually participate,
observing the event is educational and interesting.
I invite you and anyone you may wish to bring with you to
join us. We’d be please to have you!
Thanks,
Mayor Arnold Leak
