| | Valley, Alabama was incorporated in 1980 combining the four textile mill villages of Fairfax, Langdale, Riverview, and Shawmut. We are located on Interstate 85 halfway between Atlanta, Georgia and Montgomery, Alabama. Valley is only 75 miles southwest of Hartsville International Airport and 85 miles northeast of Montgomery. Our population is 9,200. The city lies on the banks of the Chattahoochee River - the state border between Alabama and Georgia. Valley is an "Alabama Community of Excellence", one of only eight in the state. |

| Valley is dedicated to modern planning. In 2000, the city was awarded the American Planning Association's Outstanding Planning Award for Alabama cities under 15,000 population. Recently, the city council adopted a three-tiered planning process. The Comprehensive Plan covers time frames beyond five years. The Strategic Plan covers from three to five years into the future, and the Tactical Plan covers from the present to as far out as two years. [more info] |
