2008 Opening Day Ceremonies

Opening Day ceremonies were held Saturday, April 26th for baseball, softball, and soccer leagues at the Sportsplex Complex with a good crowd on hand to cheer on their favorite team and players.

The ceremonies began with the River Rat, City mascot who was on hand to promote the City's "Valley Day on the River Festival" on May 24th, leading a Parade of Athletes on to the infield. Cooter Williams, Sportsplex Manager, recognized the sponsors, coaches, and the players; Suellen Snowden, City of Valley Recreation Director, welcomed the families, players, coaches, and sponsors to the day's events. Mayor Arnold Leak recognized and thanked everyone for their support and Councilman Rodney Mitchum had prayer. The National Anthem was sung by Bradley Webber.

Mayor Arnold Leak threw out the first pitch for T-Ball to Kamdyn Overby, for Softball to Abby Brumfields, and for Baseball to Zack Guy. Later, Mayor Leak and the River Rat had a throwing contest to see who the best pitcher was. Guess who won?
