Brownfields Cleanup Grants
On Monday, September 24, 2007, a resolution, sponsored by Councilmember Jim Jones, was passed by the Valley City Council giving Mayor Arnold Leak the authority to have applications for EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grants written by the City's Grant Writer. These grants will be used for cleanup at the Langdale and Riverdale Mills.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has recently completed Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments on the Langdale and Riverdale Mills, through a state grant at no cost to the City. The next step in the revitalization of these properties is to take their findings and apply for EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grants to resolve any environmental issues found.
