I am enjoying the City of Valley Website as I was born in Hogansville Ga, not too far from Valley, Alabama. In fact, I spent my early childhood living in Riverview and Langdale. I attended the little old Riverview Kindergarten and the Langdale Primary School until I was about 7 years old. Even though I was very young, I truly do have good memories of it all. My Aunt Anne Love Goggans and cousins, Zella, Thalia & Neva Andrews all lived in Riverview and I spent many wonderful times in the big white house in Riverview with all of them. It was a different time and place then, I am sure, but I did love it all. After moving to CA when I was seven, we made many summer vacation trips to visit our relatives in the area.  Thanks for the good work!

You mention your Aunt Anne Love Goggins.  That is a name that I have heard a number of times from my mom, Sara Steele (Williams).  She was born in Valley, sister Norma.  Do you know them? --- (Edited on 12/ 5/2007 1:45 am [GMT-0600] by Visitor) ---

Hi Abby Johnson Sisk! My name is Norman Cull, and I am a (great) nephew of Annie Love Goggans. My mother was Francis Elizabeth Corley Cull, daughter of Cassie and Cabe Corley of the Auburn/Opelika area, then later the Lake Martin/Blue Creek communities. Some of my earliest and most pleasant memories are of summers on the old Whatley farm in Marvyn just south of Opelika.

I also have wonderful recollections of the huge white house in the Valley with the lions on the steps, and drinking lemonade beneath the shade of the grape trellis and pomegranate bushes in its back yard while we ate those wonderful grapes. Scuppernongs and muscadines! (children's pronunciation: scuplins, musky-dimes, and the pomeganates were called "plum-granites"!) If memory serves, there also one or two quince fruit bushes.

It was almost like going to heaven visiting there, and she always treated me like a little prince. My sister and I have been trying to find Thalia, Zella, and Neva in order to gain more information about the Andrews side of our family. Can you help us with that? I lived in Alabama during the winter for several years (68-71) and attended Dadeville Jr. High then Lyman Ward before moving back to Michigan in 1971. My email is culln@msn.com  Would love to hear from you or other folks who knew Annie Love. I now live in the vicinity of Spokane, WA. Thanks, and God Bless! Norm Cull

- PS my sister's name is Carolyn, and she is the family geneology researcher- if you can help with this, I will put you in touch with her. She currently resides in Sandpoint Idaho. Mom, (Elizabeth Cull) died in 1975 in Wabasha, MN, and dad, Ernie Cull, passed away in 1990 at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA.
