August 27th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of August on Monday, August 27th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. All members were present. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The August 27th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance......................... $4,833,672.35
  • Total deposits all funds................................................ $1,286,983.48
  • Total expenditures all funds......................................... $1,245,010.82
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................. $4,875,645.01

The following actions were taken by the city council at the August 27th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from August 13, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the August 27th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolution on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-131R amending the FY 2017/2018 Operating budget by $330.00 for the purchase of various equipment for the Police Department, contribution from Hood’s Pharmacy totaling $330.00 offset the purchase of the equipment
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-132R acquiring a drainage easement in the amount of $2,500 on property owned by Donald Ray Browning and Charles W. Browning
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-133R requesting the County Commission of Chambers County remove the industrial park status from the Fairfax Mill property
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-134R authorizing the mayor to seek bids for sub-grading, final-grading, stone, curb, gutters, and paving in the Valley Industrial Park

The mayor made the following announcements:

  • The increase in the cost of a cemetery plot in Valley cemeteries would take affect October 1st
  • Notary fees would now be $5 for nonresidents of Valley beginning October 1st
  • City Hall will be closed on Monday September 3rd 2018 in Observance of Labor Day.
  • The next city council meeting would be Thursday, September 6th at 6PM

Council adjourned at 6:20PM.
