December 12th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second meeting of December on Monday, December 12, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Lana Wiggins was absent.

A public hearing to confirm costs of demolition at 1018 Foster Circle and 202 Crestview Lane was held prior to the night’s council meeting official business. No one spoke for or against.

The December 12th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,160,288.42
  • Total deposits all funds.............................................. $33,845.77
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $143,153.37
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,050,980.82

The following actions were taken by the city council at the December 12th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the December 5th council meeting
  • Accepted the December 12th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions in the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 16-171R declaring property at 206 South 2nd Street a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 16-172R declaring property at Camilla Street a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 16-173R declaring property at 6506 23rd Avenue a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 16-174R declaring property at 1236 Deana Drive a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-179R placing a lien of $9,261.22 on property at 1018 Foster Circle that was previously declared a public nuisance and authorized an abatement of the nuisance
    • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-180R placing a lien of $7,549.93 on property at 202 Crestview Lane that was previously declared a public nuisance and authorized an abatement of the nuisance
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-175R declaring a list of items as surplus and authorizing Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon to sell the surplus items
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-176R accepting the $21,899 bid from King Ford for a 2017 Ford F250 4x2 truck to replace the current Animal Control vehicle – the bid was the lowest of 3 received
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-177R setting December 30th as the city’s day to observe the 2017 New Year’s day as per the city’s personnel handbook for holidays falling on a weekend day
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-178R authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with Community Consultants, Incorporated to provide administrative services for the city’s Community Development Block Grant for a Senior Center addition to the Valley Community Center
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-179R placing a lien of $9,261.22 on property at 1018 Foster Circle that was previously declared a public nuisance and authorized an abatement of the nuisance
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-180R placing a lien of $7,549.93 on property at 202 Crestview Lane that was previously declared a public nuisance and authorized an abatement of the nuisance
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on its 1st reading Ordinance 16-16 approving the sale municipal property to Rodney Walker for $6,369.

Council adjourned to Executive Session at 6:40PM to discuss real estate negotiations.

Council returned from Executive Session and adjourned at 6:54PM without any further business occurring.
