February 10th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of February on Monday, February 10, 2020, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Jim Clark led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Kenneth and Beverly Pike addressed council on property damage issue.

Mayor Riley appointed Angela Wimberly to the Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Edith Coleman. February 16th-22nd was declared as Arbor Week. As part of the City’s Black History Month, Councilmember Cassie Carlisle read and presented a proclamation to Arthur Milford, Sr. and Councilmember Henry Cooper read and presented a proclamation to Emily Thomas Williams.

The February 10th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance...........................  $3,832,740.22
  • Total deposits all funds.................................................  $2,203,018.88
  • Total expenditures all funds..........................................  $1,146,261.33
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................... $4,889,497.77

The following actions were taken by the city council at the February 10th meeting:                  

  • Approved the minutes from the January 27th city council meeting
  • Accepted the February 10th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously the following resolutions in the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2020—011R declaring as surplus 3 Recreation Department items and giving Parks and Recreation Department Director Laurie Blount authority to sell the items
    • Resolution 2020-012R approving $300 Travel Advance to council members attending the League Convention in Tuscaloosa May 16th-19th
    • Resolution 2020-13R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into contract with East Alabama Occupational Medicine to provide “D.O.T. and Non-D.O.T. Substance Abuse Testing for the City
    • Resolution 2020-014R accepting the Chambers County Commission Bid Inquiry No. 1652 to use for paving material costs in the city for upcoming paving projects
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2020-015R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for roadway LED lighting on Highway 29

The mayor announced a Work Session on Thursday, February 13th at 6PM at Valley City Hall and the next Council Meeting would be Monday, February 24 at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall.

Council adjourned at 6:31 PM.
