February 13 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of February on Monday, February 13th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Randall Maddux and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council members Lana Wiggins and Jimmy Gilson were absent.

The February 13th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,124,991.66
  • Total deposits all funds........................................ $1,763,648.98
  • Total expenditures all funds................................ $1,100,019.21
  • Total on-hand all funds........................................ $4,788,621.43

 The following accorded during the mayor’s communications:

  • A public hearing would be held at the next city council meeting on February 27th to confirm costs of demolition at 6506 23rd Avenue
  • Greater Valley Area Chambers County Executive Director Ashley Crane presented a report on GVACC activities

The following actions were taken by the city council at the February 13th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the January 23rd, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the February 13th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following Resolutions on the Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 17-023R declaring property at 102 Deena Drive  as a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 17-024R declaring property at 701 Spring Street  as a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 17-025R declaring property at 273 Johnson Street  as a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-026R awarding the bid of $189,450 for Practice Field Lights to Musco Sports Lighting
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-027R approving a request by the Henry Hudson Company for a 6 months extension on the completion of the demolition and salvage operation at the Riverdale Mill moving the date to the end of July 2017
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-028R declaring the 2003 Ford 250 vehicle used by the Animal Control Unit as surplus property and authorizing Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon to sell the vehicle
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-029R authorizing  Public Works Director Patrick Bolt to sell or dispose of items previously declared as surplus that were not bid on during a sale of other surplus properties

Mayor Riley announced a public hearing after the regular city council meeting adjourned to discuss the East Alabama Commission’s Comprehensive plan for City of Valley.

Council adjourned at 6:25 PM.
