February 27th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second meeting of February on Monday, February 27th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Marquetta Madden and Councilmember Lana Wiggins led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members were present.

The February 27th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,788,621.43
  • Total deposits all funds........................................ $1,480,426.62
  • Total expenditures all funds................................ $1,586,789.64
  • Total on-hand all funds........................................ $4,682,258.41

The following accorded during the mayor’s communications:

  • Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon was re-appointed to serve a  3 year term on the Chambers County 911 Board
  • Paul Meadows was re-appointed to serve a 4 year term on the Chambers County Development Authority Board of Directors
  • Councilmember Cooper presented a proclamation to Attorney Terrence A. Brown as part of Black History Month in Valley

The following actions were taken by the city council at the February 27th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the February 13th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the February 27th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following Resolutions on the Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 17-030R imposing a lien of $6,715.72 on property at 6506 23rd Avenue
    • Resolution 17-031 accepting the bid of $2087, which was the lower of 2 bids received, from Yardpro Lawncare to cut city cemeteries and other city properties
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-032R authorizing the mayor to enter into a 3 year agreement with the Chambers County Emergency Communications District to provide 911 service for the City of Valley beginning October 1, 2017 and ending September 30, 2020
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-033R amending the Valley Police Department budget by $1,940 ($500 contribution from Hometown Lenders and $1,440 from the Asset Forfeiture Account) for the cost of R.A.D equipment

The council went into Executive Session to discuss real estate negotiations at 6:28PM and immediately adjourned after the Executive Session at 7:00PM.
