July 11 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of July on Monday, July 11, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Randall Maddux and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members were present.

During the Mayor’s communications

  • Mayor Riley appointed Brenda Jones as an alternate on the Board of Adjustment
  • Council heard from Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ashley Crane
  • Councilmember Madden read and presented 2 proclamations: (1) to Dianne Perry proclaiming August 5th as Chambers County Day of Prayer in the City of Valley and (2) to Barbara Brooks of the Valley Historic Preservation Commission and Malinda Powers of the Chattahoochee Valley Historic Society proclaiming August 1st as Textile Heritage Day in the City of Valley

During citizens’ communications, Chaletta Huguley and Bertha Moore addressed council on the matter of being told they could not putt a mobile home on property one of the women owned because of zoning regulations. The issue was referred to the city’s planning commission for further consideration after which the council would take action on the issue based on the planning commission’s recommendations.

The July 11th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,425,579.45
  • Total deposits all funds........................................ $386,811.52
  • Total expenditures all funds................................ $371,622.65
  • Total on-hand all funds........................................ $4,440,768.32

The following actions were taken by the city council at the July 11th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the June 27th, 2016, council meeting
  • Accepted the July 11th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-083R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into a 3-year agreement with ProCare of Chicago, IL to provide Valley EMS with stretcher maintenance on their stretchers at a total cost of $9,667.20
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-084R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into agreement with Seay, Seay & Litchfield, P.C. of Montgomery, Alabama for professional architectural services for the new Senior Center addition at the Valley Community Center and lighting for some of the practice fields behind the Community Center
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-085R giving permission to apply for an Alabama Historical Commission grant for the Bethlehem Church
