March 27th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second meeting of March on Monday, March 27th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Paul Story led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Lana Wiggins was absent.

The March 27th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,634,129.15
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $631,248.26
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $397,733.25
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,867,644.16

During Citizens’ Communications Barry Love addressed council about parking on the 5800 block of 21st Avenue.

The following actions were taken by the city council at the March 27th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the March 13th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the March 27th financial audit report
  • Approved the application by Valley One Stop for a Retail Beer/Wine Off-Premises Only license
  • Approved unanimously the following Resolutions on the Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 17-038R declaring bikes, which had been found or abandoned, as surplus property by the Police Department and authorizing the sale of the bikes
    • Resolution 17-039R declaring certain exercise equipment at the Community Center as surplus property and authorizing the sale of the equipment
  • Approved unanimously the following Resolutions on the Regular Agenda:
    • Resolution 17-040R approving $300 travel money for councilmembers attending the Annual League of Municipalities Conference in Birmingham
    • Resolution 17-041R approving a contract extension with the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force
    • Resolution 17-042R authorizing the mayor to sign a Forestry Agreement with Complete Forestry Service, Inc. to sell marketable timber on the municipal industrial park site as long as the amount sold is within or greater than the $20,000 - $30,000 estimated value of the timber

The mayor announced a public hearing to be held April 10th after the regular council meeting to discuss the East Alabama Planning Commission Comprehensive Plan for the city.

Council moved to executive session at 6:25Pm.

Council returned from executive session at 6:53PM.

Mayor Riley adjourned the council meeting at 6:54PM on this the 27th day of March 2017.
