May 23 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second meeting of May on Monday, May 23rd, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Paul Story led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members were present.

During the Mayor’s Communications Judge Calvin Milford swore in Kathy Snowden as the new City of Valley City Clerk/Treasurer. The mayor announced a public hearing to be held on Tuesday, May 24 at the Valley Senior Center to discuss the 2016 Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) and the city applying for funding from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs through the CDBG Program to create a new Senior Center Facility at the Valley Community Center.

The May 23rd financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,576,086.83
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $332,391.89
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $530,641.11
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,377,837.61

The following actions were taken by the city council at the May 23rd meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the May 9th, 2016, council meeting
  • Accepted the May 23rd financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-075R accepting a bid of $2,201.00 from Philip Sparks of Valley, which was the highest of the 8 bids received, for a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicle previously declared as surplus

Council adjourned at 6:19PM.
