November 13th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of November on Monday, November 13th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:04PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Randall Maddux was absent.

The November 13th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $5,423,923.27
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $690,438.00
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $587,796.10
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $5,526,565.17

The following actions were taken by the city council at the November 13th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the October 23rd, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the November 13th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda (Resolution 17-149R was pulled from the Consent Agenda at the request of City Attorney John Ben Jones)
    • Resolution 17-144R declaring property at 223 South 1st Street as a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 17-145R declaring property at 215 South 1st Street as a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 17-146R authorizing Parks and Recreation Director Laurie Blount to purchase 33 Gymnasium Cree LED Fixtures at a total cost of $26,812.00 from Musco Sports Lighting through the City’s membership in the National Joint Powers Alliance Cooperative Purchasing Program
    • Resolution 17-147R declaring 2 Parks and Recreation buses as surplus and authorizing Director Laurie Blount to sell them in accordance with existing municipal policy and state law
    • Resolution 17-148R awarding the bid of $27,944 per vehicle by King Ford, of Valley, which was the only bid received, for 2 2018 Police Package 4-door Utility Vehicles at a total cost of $55,888.00. The 2 new vehicles will replace 2 police vehicles declared totaled in traffic accidents
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-150R approving the $170,937 purchase by the Valley EMS Department of a new Type 1 Custom Series Ford F-350 DRW Ambulance through the HGACBuy Cooperative Purchasing Program 

Mayor Riley made the following announcements:

  • The City’s Christmas Tree Lighting would be held November 27th at City Hall after the council meeting
  • December Council Meetings will be December 11th and 18th

The council meeting adjourned at 6:20PM.
