November 13th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of November on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Marquetta Madden and Councilmember Cassie Carlisle led the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilmember Randall Maddux was absent.

Prior to official council business, a public hearing was held on a Sales Tax Abatement for Cracker Jack’s Seafood Bar & Grill, LLC.

The November 13th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance......................... $2,180,066.97
  • Total deposits all funds............................................... $1,325,754.01
  • Total expenditures all funds........................................... $684,452.33
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................ $2,821,368.65

During citizen’s communications, Thomas Bush addressed the council requesting a deduction on a demolition bond for the Langdale Mill property, which was granted by the council.

During the mayor’s communications, Mayor Riley called for a Public Hearing at the November 26 meeting to confirm costs of demolition at the following properties:

  • 113 N. Railroad St.
  • 206 Williams Blvd.
  • 223 South 1st St.
  • 215 South 1st St.
  • 1255 California Rd.
  • 1012 Plantation Rd.

The following actions were taken by the city council at the November 13th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from October 22nd, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the November 13th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-159R approving an incentive agreement with Cracker Jack’s Seafood Bar & Grill, LLC
    • Resolution 2018-160R imposing a $55 lien on property at 5201 20th Avenue
    • Resolution 2018-161R imposing a $70 lien on property at 5607 16th Avenue
    • Resolution 2018-162R awarding to Chris Clark Paving the bid of $208,660, which was the lowest of the 2 bids received, for the Valley Industrial Park 38 Acre Site Mass Grade
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-163R authorizing a $16,304 emergency purchase of a new pool heater system for the Aquatics Center Pool at the Valley Community Center
  • Suspended the rules and approved unanimously on its first reading, Ordinance 2018-22 accepting the offer of $500 from Richard B. Snider to purchase property at 2103 42nd Street that had previously been declared to be no longer needed for public or municipal purposes

The mayor made the following announcements:

        1. Next Council Meeting will be Tuesday, November 26th at 6:00pm at Valley City Hall and the lighting of
            the City’s Christmas Tree will follow the council meeting.

        2. Effective January 1st 2019 Issuance Fee for Business License will increase from $10 to $12.
