November 25th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of November on Monday, November 25, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The November 25th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance...........................  $3,727,631.05
  • Total deposits all funds....................................................  $257,557.22
  • Total expenditures all funds............................................   $347,196.43
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................... $3,637,991.84

The following actions were taken by the city council at the November 25th meeting:                

  • Approved the minutes from the November 12th city council meeting
  • Accepted the November 25th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-138R authorizing the mayor to enter into the annual contract with Harris Gray, LLC
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-139R authorizing the purchase of a Massey Ferguson Model MF5711 Tractor from the State of Alabama Bid List. The list price of the tractor was $78,915.00 with a 28.7% discount of $23,729.74 bringing the Unit Price of the tractor to $55,185.26. After a trade-in allowance of $32,000 for a John Deere 6715 Tractor and a New Holland 5610 2wd Tractor, both of which were previously declared as surplus by council, the final cost of the tractor was $23,185.26.  
  • Council heard the first reading of Ordinance 2019-28 authorizing the sale of 40.961 acres of city property to Chris Clark Properties, LLC for $204,805. The first reading was due to changes in the ordinance after its initial first reading at the Nov 12 council meeting
  • Suspended the rules and passed on its first reading Ordinance 2019-29 setting the speed limit on Valley Industrial Boulevard at 35 mph

The mayor made the following announcement:

  1. The next Council Meeting will be Monday, December 2nd at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall with the City of Valley Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony to be held after the council meeting

Council adjourned at 6:14 PM.
