September 25 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of September on Monday, September 25th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:03PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Lana Wiggins was absent.

The September 25th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,535,754.96
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $246,462.66
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $267,964.15
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,514,253.47

The following actions were taken by the city council at the September 25th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the September 14th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the September 25th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 17-118R exempting “covered items” from municipal sales and tax use during the State Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday beginning at 12:01AM on February 23, 2018 and ending at midnight on February 25, 2018
    • Resolution 17-119R awarding the bid for tree cutting during the city’s 2017-2018 FY to Matthew & Jody’s Tree Service for $31,850, which was the only bid received
    • Resolution 17-120R adopting the 2016 Chambers County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan and making it immediately effective in the city
    • Resolution 17-121R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into contract with Account Due Services, LLC for collection of overdue accounts

There were no items on the regular agenda.

Council went into Executive Session at 6:12PM to discuss real estate negotiations.

Upon returning from Executive Session at 6:38PM, the following actions were taken by council

  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously Ordinance 17-11 on its first reading selling the Langdale Mill property to The Henry Hudson Company
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-122R approving the purchase of approximately 388 acres of land along the Fairfax Bypass for $1,550,000, almost doubling the size of the Valley Industrial Park

Mayor Riley made the following announcements:

  • Chambers County and Revenue Discovery Systems will have 2 free Business Taxpayer Seminars on September 28th

The council meeting adjourned at 6:38PM.
