September 9th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of September on Monday, September 9, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Marquetta Madden and Councilmember Cassie Carlisle led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

The September 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance............................  $4,087,495.78
  • Total deposits all funds.....................................................  $691,429.71
  • Total expenditures all funds..............................................  $733,656.24
  • Total on-hand all funds.................................................... $4,045,269.25

The following actions were taken by the city council at the September 9th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the August 26th council meeting
  • Accepted the September 9th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously the following items in the night’s Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2019-098R authorizing the installation of 3 street lights on Four Star Drive
    • Resolution 2019-099R imposing a lien of $195.00 on property at 1203 30th Street
    • Resolution 2019-100R imposing a lien of $125.00 on property at 2201 58th Street
    • Resolution 2019-101R imposing a lien of $100.00 on property at 109 Glenn Street
    • Resolution 2019-102R imposing a lien of $60.00 on property at 309 MLK Drive
    • Resolution 2019-103R imposing a lien of $65.00 on property at 2005 29th Blvd
    • Resolution 2019-104R imposing a lien of $65.00 on property at 5211 23rd Blvd
    • Resolution 2019-105R imposing a lien of $70.00 on property at 512 Francis Street
    • Resolution 2019-106R imposing a lien of $75.00 on property at 503 Francis Street
    • Resolution 2019-107R imposing a lien of $75.00 on property at 3311 21st Avenue
    • Resolution 2019-108R imposing a lien of $75.00 on property at 5607 16th Avenue
    • Resolution 2019-109R authorizing the Mayor to enter into agreement with AVENU Insights & Analytics, LLC, Birmingham, AL for Business License Recovery processing
    • Resolution 2019-110R declaring as surplus a Spirit 800 Upright Bike Model Xu878 and authorizing Parks and Recreation Department Director Laurie Blount to sell the bike.
    • Resolution 2019-112R authorizing Parks and Recreation Department Director Laurie Blount to seek and apply for grants for playground equipment
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-112R approving a 3% COLA for city employees effective the 1st payroll in December 2019
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-113R approving the purchase of property from Teresa Striblin Cook for $1,500
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-114R approving a 2-year contract with Tinsley’s Amusements, Inc. at a cost of $26,000 per year for rental of a Merry-Go-Round for Christmas

The mayor made the following announcement:

  1. The next Council Meeting will be Monday, September 23rd, at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall
  2. Gun Ordinance Committee will meet Thursday, September 17th at 10:00am at Valley City Hall

Council adjourned at 6:18 PM.
